Pita and Nutella
March 10, 2009
Kayle Barnes

I had a great snack Sunday afternoon: Pita and Nutella. One delicious thing plus another usually equals more delicious. That's how I feel about the beautiful mixture of cultures at OU. The pita was leftover from an event and the Nutella is a part of my food pyramid. It's Spring semester and hopefully you know what that means-culture nights for days! That means great dances, music food and also knowledge.

Since Wednesday night I've been to 4 culture events: Open Minds hosted by Hillel and the Lebanese Student Association, PanAm, French and Francophone Night and Malaysian Night. I am of none of the above cultures and yet I participated in PanAm night, indulged in my adopted countries night to shine and volunteered at the last. It's a beautiful thing to see people of all different cultures brought together in Norman, Oklahoma of all places. There are more culture nights to come this semester and it finishes with Eve of Nations. I've never been, much to my chagrin in the past four years, but I will definitely fix that come April 3. I will miss a lot about OU when I graduate in May. However, it will be the random assortment of Americans and non-Americans from virtually everywhere in the world making their home for four, five or six years where the wind comes sweeping down the plains that will continue to bring a smile on my face for years to come.
