Inhofe's Tiff
April 8, 2009

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe from Oklahoma vowed Tuesday to fight possible defense budget cuts that could target a next-generation cannon expected to be assembled and tested in Oklahoma.

Read the story here.

Are Inhofe's gripes legitimate? Should Gates be cutting the defense budget?

Comments

Gates is not cutting the defense budget. In fact the defense budget increases under Gates' plan, but he is changing the priorities away from Cold War style projects that would probably never be used in combat in favor of counterinsurgency and irregular warfare programs to match what the military is actually doing today. Opponents like Inhofe may try to portray this as a cut that endangers the U.S., but really they are just protecting their defense contractor buddies.

The reality is Inhofe was delusional about the cannon to begin with. He knew all along that the Dept of Defense planned to test the cannon and use it for training in Fort Hood, TX rather than Fort Sill, OK.
