Building a relationship with the reader
September 10, 2009

Peter Davis/The Oklahoma Daily

Over the next couple years, I hope to build a relationship with those who dare venture to this blog. Hopefully, the insight and perspective that I offer here will be something unique that you enjoy to check back frequently as it gets updated here on OUDaily.com. Let me take a second to stop and introduce myself. My name is Peter Davis. I am a new intern reporter here at the Daily and a transfer student who is also 10 years older than the average incoming freshman, a husband and a father of two little boys, six and eight. My life is hectic!

I packed up the family in early July and moved here on campus less than a month after getting married. (Let me mention it now, it’s my third marriage, but more on that over the next couple years.) It has really been a chance to start all over again right here at OU, and I intend to make the best of it.

I also need everyone to understand something too. Don’t let the sunny disposition fool anyone. I fully plan on using this blog to let people and younger students see the challenges of life. I won’t hold back much here. I want this to be something for everybody. I imagine there will be a gauntlet of emotions that will be put on display for the world to see. Consider this my open letter to everyone out there.

When I started putting together the idea for this, the first thought was, it’s going to be like “Marley & Me,” minus the dog. In Marley’s place you’ll meet my family, my children and myself. In just two and a half months, I have already enough memories and stories to write a blog daily for the rest of the semester. So next week, I’ll summarize it instead.

As people know, life is what it is and this is no exception. I hope everyone enjoys the week. I hope we crush BYU Saturday and I hope I don’t lose my nerves in the mean time.
