Have you ever noticed that once someone makes up their mind about something, it is very hard for them to change their minds about it?

About four months ago I worked on story for a reporting class that dealt with immigration reform, and this weekend I found myself thrown back into the complexities of the immigration issue.

What do you think of The Daily's print redesign?

As I look back on last week, I am in awe of all the things I’ve covered. I believe I did about 5 stories last week along with a brief or something like that, and this week I have 4 stories. Plus, I’m working on 2 other side projects for potential future stories.

Some of the most interesting aspects of this job are the places it takes me. A few that stick out are a trip to Norman Pioneer Library to meet civil rights activist Clara Luper; a late night visit to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City to talk with Nikki Peterson, who commutes multiple times a week between the city and Tulsa to be with her hospitalized husband and her young daughter; and most recently, a walk across campus to Meacham Auditorium in the Union to report on the Miss Hispanic OU pageant.

Everybody has a passion, so they say. For the longest time, I was struggling to figure out what mine was.

One of the stories I was working on this week was the OU’s You Tube Channel.

I’m going to tell you a little secret. Sometimes when you work on a story, you have to interview some boring people and it is up to you to make the story interesting to everyone else.

One of the stories that I am working on right now is the new Jim Thorpe Multicultural Center that we are getting on campus.

It’s really frustrating to me when people don’t return my phone calls, but then they’ll text me right away if I shoot them a message. I get equally frustrated when an adult says they don’t have the time to talk to me on the phone, but would prefer if I asked some questions through an e-mail.

While Friday and Saturday tend to be the slowest days of the week in the newsroom (unless some idiot decides to attack a professor), I know that on Sunday I will have to spend a ton of time compiling all the police reports.

I must say, I’ve been quite flattered by the amount of attention my stories have received this week. Four of my stories appeared in The Daily this week, and between two of them, readers left 35 comments on OUDaily.com.

I had lunch with senior vice president and provost Nancy Mergler Tuesday afternoon. We were set to meet up at the university club at 1 p.m.

Last Saturday, Ashley Body covered a Habitat for Humanity story where OU students had raised money for a very deserving family. Joseph Johnson is a single parent and his son, JoJo, is 6 , he was born with down syndrome and was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of four.

To say this week was crazy is definitely an understatement. Well, you know the story about Michael Childers. If not, I’ll start from the beginning.
