Men's Tennis: Sooners return from break to host No. 37 San Diego, begin four-match home stand
The No. 11 OU men’s tennis team will start its four-match homestand tonight against No. 37 San Diego at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Norman.
The Sooners are 11-5 this season after splitting matches over the spring break road trip, beating No. 64 Arizona, 6-1, and losing to No. 6 Pepperdine 4-3. However, OU is 4-0 this year after a loss.
"San Diego is a very tough team, and Coach Masi has done a great job with the team," coach John Roddick said. "We are looking forward to the challenge, and we know it is going to be a tough fight."
Roddick’s squad comes into the match against the 11-5 Toreros with two doubles teams in the ITA top-80. Senior Costin Paval and sophomore Dane Webb are ranked No. 29, and junior Guillermo Alcorta and freshman Axel Llamas are ranked No. 71. San Diego does not have any ranked doubles tandems.
During the singles portion of the match, OU will look to its top-three players—Paval, Alcorta and Webb—ranked inside the ITA top-125 at No. 30, 51 and 61, respectively. The Toreros have one singles player ranked— junior Clarke Spinosa at No. 78.
OU’s top three singles players are a combined 32-10 in singles matches this season. The team will rely heavily on their past experience during the home stand.

The Owls are 8-9 this season and have won only two of its eleven matches against nationally ranked teams.
