OU wrestling: Maple defends Big 12 title, remains undefeated

Staff Reports, The Oklahoma Daily 12:18 p.m. March 11, 2013

OU junior wrestler Kendric Maple won his second-consecutive Big 12 title in the 141-pound division and boosted his record to a perfect 26-0.

Maple defeated Iowa State sophomore Luke Goettl, 13-3, after jumping out to an 8-0 lead.

“I’m so happy to see Kendric get his second title,” said coach Mark Cody in a statement. “It’s good for our team because they all workout and train in the same room, they get the same coaching but he just goes out and applies it every time. When you apply what you learn, and succeed it really shows something.”

OU finished third with 58 points at the 2013 Big 12 Championships behind No. 2 Oklahoma State with 118.5 points and No. 20 Iowa State 74 points.
