OU softball: Sooners run rule Drake in final game of weekend series
The No. 1 Oklahoma softball team picked up its fourth run-rule victory in its last four games. The Sooners (22-1) took care of Drake, 13-0, in today’s second game of the double-header.
Key stat: 7 – The Sooners scored seven runs in the second inning – all with two outs. Two singles, one double and a home run propelled the surge. After that inning, the game already was out of reach for Drake.
Key player: Shelby Pendley – The sophomore infielder has been on a tear lately. Pendley is hitting .789 in her last nine games. Today she blasted two home runs, had four RBIs and scored three times.
What it means: OU outscored its opponents over the weekend by a combined margin of 47-2. The first six batters in the Oklahoma lineup proved why they are arguably the most powerful in the game.
What’s next for the Sooners: Oklahoma will be back in action at noon on Friday in Fullerton, Calif. The Sooners will participate in the Judi Garman Classic, playing five games in three days. The first matchup will be against Pacific University.
