OU softball: Sooners blank Northern Colorado, 10-0
The top-ranked Sooner softball team continued its weekend dominance, defeating Northern Colorado, 10-0. The Sooners (21-1) have accumulated 10 home runs in the last three contests.
Key stat: 24-0 – The combined margin of victory for OU against Northern Colorado over the weekend. The top-ranked Sooners defeated the Bears, 14-0, on Friday before winning easily, 10-0, today.
Key player: Keilani Ricketts – The senior All-American did not even pitch, but still was the most valuable player of the game for the Sooners. Ricketts is known for being the top pitcher in the game, but today it was her bat that carried the team. She hit two home runs – one of which was a grand slam – for a total of six RBIs in the game.
Honorable Mention: Michelle Gascoigne – The left-handed senior allowed only one hit to the Bears. Gascoigne struck out eleven batters to earn her ninth win of the season.
What it means: Oklahoma has now scored 10 or more runs in the first three games of the weekend. The Sooners have played a tough non-conference schedule, but OU has rolled over lesser competition this weekend.
