OU softball: Sooners throttle Northern Colorado, 14-0
The bats were on fire this afternoon as the No. 1 Oklahoma softball team defeated Northern Colorado, 14-0, at Marita Hynes Field. It only took five innings for the Sooners to earn their 19th victory of the season as they run-ruled the Bears.
Key Stat: 5 – The Sooners (19-1) hit five homeruns against the Bears – all coming in the first two innings. Sophomores Shelby Pendley, Lauren Chamberlain, and Georgia Casey all contributed to the deep ball effort, along with junior Brittany Williams. Oklahoma now has a total of 28 home runs on the season.
Key Player: Shelby Pendley – The sophomore infielder was locked in at the plate this afternoon. Pendley blasted a pair of 3-run home runs in the first two innings of the game, sparking the Sooner offense. She then hit a double in the fourth scoring a run. The seven runs Pendley drove in this afternoon now give her 18 RBI this season.
Honorable Mention: Georgia Casey – The Australian native was on the mound for her first start of the season. Casey pitched nearly four innings in the game, surrendering only one hit while striking out four hitters.
What it means: The top six hitters in the Oklahoma lineup proved why the Sooners are among the most powerful teams in the country. The pitching did not disappoint either, as OU earned its 11th shutout of the season today against the Bears.
