Men's tennis: Sooners defeat Louisville for 10th win this season
The No. 6 OU men’s tennis team beat No. 41 Louisville, 6-1, on Friday in Louisville, Ky., to improve its record this season to 10-3.
“We played well against a very tough Louisville team,” coach John Roddick said. “Our doubles was really good tonight and we fought hard in singles and pulled out some tough matches. I was very proud of the effort tonight.”
The Sooners won the doubles point, and moved into singles play with a 1-0 lead. The ITA No. 52 doubles tandem, senior Costin Paval and sophomore Dane Webb, won their match 8-1. After that, OU clinched the doubles point when junior Peerakit Siributwong and senior Lawrence Formentera won their match 8-3.
In singles play, ITA No. 61junior Guillermo Alcorta earned the first singles point, beating sophomore Albert Wagner 6-3, 6-0. The next point came from Webb when he beat sophomore Michael Lippens 6-2, 6-3. The match-winning point came from junior Peerakit Siributwong when he beat sophomore Luis Elizondo 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
The Sooners will now shift its focus to No. 26 Florida State at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Norman.
