OU junior Keilani Ricketts pitches against California in the seventh inning of an NCAA Women's College World Series tournament softball game Friday, June 1, 2012, in Oklahoma City. Ricketts had 16 strikeouts in the Sooners' 3-0 win.

The No. 1 Oklahoma softball team was victorious in its home opener at Marita Hynes Field, defeating the Houston Cougars, 6-0, on Friday.

Key Stat: 14 — Senior Keilani Ricketts fanned 14 Houston batters in the win. The All-American now has accumulated 94 strikeouts this season. The Cougar offense was not prepared to face the hard-throwing lefty.

Key Player: Brittany Williams — The junior left fielder sparked the Sooner offense with a two-out, two-run single in the third inning. Up until that point, the Oklahoma offense had been struggling to produce. Williams’ hit started a trend that ended with the Sooners scoring four runs on five hits in the inning.

What it means: The Sooners (16-0) continued their undefeated season following their pitching's lead. Oklahoma now has shut out 11 opponents in its first 16 contests.

What’s next for the Sooners: OU returns to action against No. 25 Nebraska for a double-header beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Norman. The second game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
