The No. 42 Oklahoma men’s golf team continued its hot start to the spring season with a second place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande this weekend.

The Sooners entered the final day tied with No. 5 Alabama for first place but finished seven strokes behind them with an overall score of 838 (-26).

The 15-team tournament included eight ranked teams including Oklahoma, which finished 10 strokes ahead of third-place SMU.

Senior Will Kropp shot a strong final round to tie for second place with a score of 206 (-10), putting him two shots out of first place. Kropp’s third-round 65 was his best round of the season, and his three-round 206 is an OU best this season.

Starting Tuesday tied for first, junior Eduardo Castiello shot an even final round to finish at 209 (-7) and tie for fifth, while senior Abraham Ancer tied for 10th with a three-round 211 (-5) to give the Sooners three top-10 finishers.

Junior Michael Schoolcraft completed the tournament at 218 (2+), which tied him for 31st, and freshman Beau Titsworth finished at 219 (3+), giving him sole possession of 35th.

The Sooners have two weeks off, but they’ll be back in action on March 8 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas.
