The No. 2 Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team claimed three more victories Friday in the Perfect 10 Challenge against No. 16 Boise State, Brigham Young University and Texas Woman’s University.

With a fifth-straight meet earning a team score of a 197 or better, the Sooners now have tied a team record and advanced to a 14-0 record on the season.

“It’s a really great thing that we’ve accomplished,” junior Taylor Spears said. “I definitely think we are on the right track.”

Battling illness throughout the week, OU was still able to persevere with a landslide win and a sweep of individual titles on each event.

“We came into the meet not knowing who would be feeling well enough to compete,” coach K.J. Kindler said in a news release. “It’s one of those meets that you had to push through all the way to the end, and we did that well.”

Senior Brie Olson claimed the all-around title with a score of 39.550.

So far this season, the Sooners have continued to earn season high and career high scores throughout each meet and Friday was no exception.

On bars, the team earned a season-high score of a 49.525 led by Olson’s season best of a 9.95. Spears earned a career high while sophomore Erica Brewer tied her own career high on the apparatus.

“You know, we hadn’t quite hit that high score on bars yet, so we just really went for it,” Spears said. “We didn’t hold back as much as we have recently.”

Oklahoma is looking on to a tough meet against No. 4 UCLA at 7p.m. Friday in Norman in what will be its greatest challenge of the season so far.

“We’re just going to work even harder this week,” Spears said. “Each meet is a new challenge and it’s leading up to the ultimate prize.”
