Welcome to the closing act of the Amanda Thompson show.
The senior forward and OU women’s basketball team slammed the door shut on the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in a 95-62 Bedlam blowout.
Both Oklahoma squads were looking to head into the Big 12 Championships with a boost over an instate rival, but OU stole the show.
It was contested from the beginning, but OU and Amanda Thompson quickly proved that they came to play on this Senior Night.
At the first time-out, it was the Sooners up 13-10.
OU was static from three in last week’s loss to Texas A&M, but those woes were over for the Sooners in the first half as OU knocked down four with just 10 minutes gone in the half.
Senior Amanda Thompson led the Sooner downpour from beyond the arc going 3-3 in the first half.
With the support from behind the arc OU maintained a 19-4 lead with 11:30 remaining.
The Sooners lead ballooned to 24-16, due in large part to the hot hand Thompson. She already had 14 points midway through the half.
As expected, OSU’s Andrea Riley saw her shots go in for 17 points in the half, but no other Cowgirl had more than four points. Even with Riley’s help, OSU could not combat the double-digit Sooner lead.
With three minutes remaining in the half, Thompson put up another two to bury OSU even further at 44-22.
At the buzzer the Sooners headed into the half with a 19 point lead, 47-28.
The Sooners went 9-15 in the first half from three-point range and shot 63 percent from the field.
Thompson closed out the half with 19 points for OU. Not to be outdone by her fellow senior, forward Nyeshia Stevenson also recorded 11 first half points.
The Thompson train kept chugging in the second half as she opened up the half with the Sooners first five points.
The third Sooner senior, center Abi Olajuwon, got her first two points in the game after three minutes.
By 15:46, the OU lead swelled to 30 points at 64-34 as the Sooner’s field goal percentage pushed near 70 percent.
The seniors were not the only Sooners getting in the action.
Sophomore guard Jasmine Hartman was 4-6 from beyond three and freshman center Joanna McFarland joined the three-point party with one of her own.
The only sour point for the Sooners in the second half was the four fouls Danielle Robinson picked up that relegated her to the bench.
The Sooner scoring spree slowed down in the later minutes of the second half, as the field goal percentage dropped to 59 percent with an 88-54 Sooner lead.
With 1:30 left, Olajuwon, Thompson, and Stevenson took a senior bow and headed to the sidelines for their final regular-season game at Lloyd Noble Center.
The 32-point win saw every Sooner in the game.
Thompson finished the game with 29 points and 11 rebounds.
Stevenson followed up with 15 points, Robinson added 13, and Hartman added 14.
