OU basketball signee named MVP of Texas all-star tournament

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

SAN ANTONIO — OU basketball recruit T.J. Taylor scored 18 points to lead the North to a 113-95 win over the South in the annual Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Basketball Game on Monday in San Antonio.

The performance was good enough to earn the 6-3, 205-pound guard from Denison, Texas, the North's most valuable player award.

Taylor helped the North regain control every time the South threatened, including the third period after the South had trimmed 15 points off the North's 19-point halftime lead. He then opened the fourth quarter with a slam dunk and an assist as the North began to pull away.

Darius Richardson of Fort Bend Bush, a Texas-Arlington signee, was named the South MVP with a 23-point performance.

Taylor signed his letter of intent with the Sooners on Nov. 11, 2009. The left-handed senior at Denison High School was rated by ESPN.com as the No. 71 overall player in the 2010 recruiting class and by Rivals.com as the No. 91 player.
