A winter storm watch has been issued for Cleveland County including the OU campus area.

The National Weather Service, based at the National Weather Center on campus, issued a winter storm watch for Cleveland County and the counties west, north and northeast of Norman that will remain in effect through Monday.

According to the report released by the service, from Sunday through Monday, a winter storm is expected to affect a large portion of the state.

"Before the precipitation ends, snow and blustery winds may also spread into southern Oklahoma and western North Texas resulting in light accumulations," the report stated. "Wind chill temperatures will fall to between zero degrees and ten degrees above zero. Below average temperatures and low wind chill temperatures will persist though Wednesday."

The report stated at that time another weather system will bring a chance of rain and light snow to the area.

"Widespread snow accumulations of three to six inches will be possible and isolated higher totals may occur near and north of interstate-40," the report stated. "This will have significant impacts on travel and commerce."

According to the report, a winter storm watch means there is a potential for snow, ice and sleet accumulations that may impact travel.
