The UOSA Graduate Student Senate is considering hosting an academic forum to address concerns over the watering-down of curriculum.
Senate Academic Affairs Chairwoman Nichole Grooms said she is concerned that OU is cheapening degrees by dumbing-down curriculum so students will be able to pass. She said student leaders must address the issue.
“We are having classes taught by the best in their field, and yet we are telling them that they should teach down to our students,” Grooms said. “If we stay on the present course of asking the best professors to teach down to their students ... our degrees not be worth the same that they are now as they will be 20 years from now.”
Grooms said professors should be encouraged to be tough, and the forum will help address the situation of classes becoming easier.

It sounds like there are some more layers to this (is it possible to discuss anything related to UOSA without knowing all the esoteric personal rivalries and private agendas of its members?) but I agree with the sentiment. The sociology department in particular is absolute garbage and needs reform. I was told by one professor that raising the minimum 2.5 GPA to a 3.0 would cause most of the minority students to fail out and basically told that a low-performing student with a degree is better than real standards. Not trying to be racist, but that's what I've heard.
