Students will have a chance to hear from an accomplished filmmaker as Barry Braverman visits Gaylord Hall today.
Braverman will be speaking in professor Ralph Beliveau’s documentary film class at 1:30 p.m. and will conduct a workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. in Studio D in the Gaylod College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Braverman has published his own book about shooting film and made a documentary about Wes Anderson’s film “The Darjeeling Limited.”
Beliveau, a broadcast and electronic media professor in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, said he is excited to see Braverman come to OU.
“[He has] a real breadth of experience,” Beliveau said.
Beliveau said he expects that his documentary class will primarily be discussing the challenges that face documentary filmmakers. He said they will probably focus on issues including camera work and lighting.
He said Braverman has worked in both documentary and commercial film and has a lot to say that will be beneficial to students.
Tonight’s workshop will focus on film production. Braverman will show production and lighting techniques and how to work in various production situations.
English professor Joanna Rapf was instrumental in Braverman’s visit to OU.
She said Braverman’s variety of experience is what makes him a beneficial guest speaker for OU students.
“He’s done a lot of different types of work, which means he’s well versed in different kinds of cinematography,” Rapf said.
She said she is hopeful that students will take advantage of this great resource on campus.
“It’s a really lovely opportunity,” she said.
The class and workshop are open to all students.
