Two stabbings occured at the Cleveland County courthouse Thursday evening, said Cleveland County District Judge Tom Lucas.
A defendant at the courthouse tried to stab himself in the throat, Lucas said. A sheriff's deputy tried to take the knife from the defendant and was stabbed in the hand, Lucas said.
Lucas said he ran into the courtroom when heard there was an incident where he found his son Stephen Lucas, the sheriff's deputy, bleeding from his hands. Lucas said his son told him the defendant in a trial, Troy Leal, had hidden a knife and was upset with the ruling of his court case and stabbed himself in the throat.
Lucas said his son had noticed the knife when Leal began to stab himself and jumpd on top of Leal to prevent him from further harming himself.
Stephen Lucas' hands were severly injured and Leal was transported to Norman Regional Hospital. Leal is in critical condition. Lucas' condition is unknown at this time.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
