Men's Gym: Sooners finish third in NCAA Championship

The OU men’s gymnastics team posted a score of 361.200 to finish third at the 2009 NCAA Championship Friday night. OU finished first on floor (62.750) and vault (64.050).

Stanford took the title with a score of 362.800 and Michigan (361.500) came in at second.

Sophomore Steven Legendre won the all-around title with a score of 90.500. As one of six Sooners advancing to tonight’s NCAA individual event finals, Legendre will compete for titles on the floor, vault and horizontal bar.

Seniors Chris Brooks, Kyle McNamara, Russel Czaschin and Jacob Messina, and sophomore Bobby Shortle will also compete in the individual final. The top eight gymnasts from each event will claim All-American titles.

The competition will begin at 7 p.m. Live results from the event can be accessed on the 2009 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship page at www.gophersports.com.

The team and all-around finals will air on ESPN2 (Cox Channel 28, HD Channel 721 in OKC) April 23 at 2 p.m.
