Three people, including two OU athletes, were injured early Sunday morning in a fight involving knives, guns and tire irons.

The Norman Police Department has confirmed that Frank Alexander, a redshirt freshman defensive end on the Sooners’ football team and Ray Willis, a freshman guard on the Sooners’ men’s basketball team, were stabbing victims of a brawl at Sooner Knights, a club located at 1309 SW 24th Ave. Police also released the identity of the third person hurt during the incident, Rachel Taylor, 19 of Norman. Taylor was reportedly struck by a vehicle.

Police added that the altercation occurred after a number of people unsuccessfully attempted to crash a private party at the location and attacked invited guests after being denied entry.

At 2:32 a.m. Sunday, police responded to numerous reports of a fight at Sooner Knights. According to the police, while en route, they received reports that people had been wounded. They found evidence at the scene consistent with these reports.

While at the scene, police received word that two stabbing victims had arrived at Norman Regional Hospital in a privately-owned vehicle.

Brenda Finkle, director of public relations for Norman Regional Hospital, confirmed that Alexander was treated and released from Norman Regional Hospital for unspecified injuries on Sunday.

She declined to say whether Willis was treated at the hospital.

“We understand that the outlook is good,” for the health of the victims, OU head football coach Bob Stoops stated.

The OU Athletics Department released statements Monday evening from Stoops, OU President David L. Boren, Athletics Director Joe Castiglione, and head basketball coach Jeff Capel expressing concern for the well-being of the victims of the incident.

“We are most concerned about the recovery of those who were injured,” Castiglione stated. “While details are still emerging, indications are that those who were injured were victims of assault.”

Boren stated that he asked Vice President of Student Affairs Clarke Stroud and his staff to work with the athletics department to develop a plan to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“I have every confidence that the leadership of the department of athletics will take appropriate action,” Boren stated.

Terran Jason McCabe, 27, was arrested at Sooner Knights for carrying a concealed weapon, according to the police. He was released Sunday on bail.

Norman Police Capt. Leonard Judy said the incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is invited to call the Norman Police Department at 321-1444 or Crime Stoppers at 366-7867.
